Well, this is still going. One more idea relating to the NO-THING is the Sufi state of "fana" or extinction of the lesser self in SPIRIT.
Jalalu'din Rumi explains fana thus:
Oh, let me NOT exist!
for non-existence proclaims
in organ tones:
I shall return to ONENESS in Thee!
