June 29, 2000 - Pronouncing The Maha Mantra

Dear Babaji,

I have always had a question about the mantra: Om Namaha Shivaya. When it first got transmitted to me from Haidakhan that is how it was given. However, when devotees returned from Haidakhan and on tape recordings, it was pronounced and chanted, "Om Namah Shivaya." And in most written material, it is usually presented that way. Also, in Your emails that Marge has shared that's the way You give it. This is a puzzlement because, when the "ha" is dropped and is chanted that way, the energy is not the same. To me, it is considerably less and not the "Mahamantra." My real question is: Am I feeling this right, and if I am, what happened to the "ha" and why?

In TSL

Babaji Responds:

"Blessings:

"Focusing on a slight variation of pronouncing the Mahamantra can only lead to misery. Chant from your heart not your head.

"Babaji"
